Permeation Test Method Summary - Standards by ASTM and ISO

ASTM International, formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of voluntary consensus standards.

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is an independent, non-governmental international organization with a membership of 162 national standards bodies.

International Standards ensure that products and services are safe, reliable and of good quality. In the world of permeation testing, both ASTM and ISO issued their test method standards over years. However, most of them are similar or reference each other.

This paper summarizes the most popular test method standards for oxygen water vapor, carbon dioxide and other gases. It also lists instrument examples that comply with these standards.

1. Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR) Test Methods

2. Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) Test Methods

3. Carbon Dioxide Transmission Rate (CO2TR) Test Methods

4. Transmission Rate (TR) for Other Gases
